when i downloaded the previous version there was a private folder
im helping a friend download and install the new update and theres only the riivolution folder and the apps file
dont u need the private? and where do we get it??

There was no private folder. You're probably thinking of the folder created by the Wii, or perhaps other mods include it.

Just have your friend put Apps and Riivolution in the root of the SD card.
